Taxis

Regular taxicabs abound if you want a more flexible and comfortable way of getting around. Found mostly in larger cities and towns of Bangkok and Phuket. There is a fixed fare system for all these ‘taxi-meter’-starting at B35, includes the first 2km. The starting rate is B4.5/km, which increases B0.5 after every 10km. A distance over 20km would be charger a rate of B5.5/km. Using the meter is supposedly mandatory, however, drivers are notorious for not using the meter, especially when picking up foreigners. Insist on using the meter, make sure that the driver has turned the meter on. Tolls are paid by the customer. Tipping isn’t customary, but do have small change ready as drivers are famous for never having any. When necessary always negotiate price before getting in.
