International Transportation

Thailand is not necessarily a difficult place for travel there are over 70,000 taxis available 24 hours a day in Bangkok but not all taxi drivers have a thorough knowledge of the city and depend on the passenger for directions. Unfortunately most Taxi drivers in Bangkok do not speak English. Therefore it is wise to have a local native speaker with you. As Bangkok is such a large city, it is often more convenient to use other forms public transportation to avoid traffic. Bangkok has many forms of public transportation including about 15,788 local busses everyday, sky train, subway, and public boats. All of these forms of public transportation make getting around in Bangkok very easy but unless you speak the language you need someone local to assist you.

New Airport Suvarnabhumi

Suvarnabhumi’s seven-floor, 563,000 sqm terminal – the world’s largest – is located 25 kilometres east of Bangkok. A 10-lane road connects it to the city’s Outer Ring Road and the expressway to Pattaya. An elevated express train system – expected to come online in mid-2007 – will run from the Sukhumvit area to Suvarnabhumi.

This type of infrastructure expansion has been critical in making Bangkok a front-line destination, and key to this is transportation. The first big break in circumventing the notorious Bangkok traffic jams came on December 5, 1999, when the Bangkok Transit System (BTS) opened the Skytrain. Rates ranging from B10 – B40 take travelers as far as the Chatuchak weekend market and Sukhumvit Soi 77, stopping at the main shopping, hotel and entertainment areas in between. The Siam Square interchange station connects to the Silom Line, which cuts throught the Central Business District before terminating at Thaksin Bridge and the Chao Phraya River Boat.
